This blending of backgrounds enables our staff to quickly identify the needs of each person or community seeking our services and tailor our program response to meet those needs.

Excellence is an elusive and impossible to define goal. Yet, this is the obsession of our society today--excellence in everything, but most especially in education. However, due to the impossibility of defining "excellence" in education, our education system is constantly failing to meet this goal.

Our goal at Beyond Excellence is to take you to the reality of what exists in the clearly defined realm beyond "excellence"--God's expectations for each person and for education as a whole.

Our founder and director, Khalilah D. Smith, chose to pursue this calling in 1999. She has dedicated her life to discerning God's standards for education (as laid out in Scripture) and how each person can reach those standards. As part of this process, she has earned two Bachelor's and two Master's degrees, one of which is in School Administration from Vanderbilt University. She also holds active teaching licensure in two states, as well as active school administrative licensure in Tennessee. Her teaching career spans 25 years and experiences in a highly diverse combination of settings, including:

This diversity of experiences enables her to smoothly lead our organization through the bureaucracy permeating the educational arena in order to bring every student to reaching the point that is truly Beyond Excellence—God’s ideal.

Today’s educational arena is very proud of its supposed origins in the Enlightenment. However, the very essence of the Enlightenment is at odds with Scripture, since the Enlightenment sought to bring all religious belief into question and rejecting anything that did not line up with the thoughts of the greatest minds of Enlightenment, and therefore cannot be the lens through which Godly education is viewed. Placing human reasoning over God’s Word removes God from the center of everything in a student’s life.

Every aspect of the curriculum and instructional methods used within any Beyond Excellence program is held to these standards. By adhering strictly to God’s standards and not leaning on our own understanding, excellence in all areas of life is guaranteed (Psalm 1:3; Proverbs 3:5-6).
